I got a bike!
It’s not my first bike in the city. When I first moved to Toronto I thought it would be fun to ride around on a bike. I didn’t want my red 10-speed (remember how cool 10-speeds used to be? I had pink-and-white striped handlebar tape. love). Anyway, instead, I brought my mom’s retro army green bike with wicker basket to the city. It was a seven-speed and it was awesome. Unfortunately, one day I rode my bike to Indigo, and when I came out, it was hailing. I left my bike and took the subway home. I had every intention to go back and get my bike the next day. Except the next day it was even worse weather and then before I knew it it was winter. And I knew I had to get my bike, but we had the worst winter on record. Still, on one particularly warm-ish day where there was no snow on the road, I trekked back to get my bike. Only the bike lock had frozen shut and I had one of those super duper bike locks (so that no one would steal my bike). So I decided to leave it until spring when everything (including my fingers) thawed.
Spring came. So did some jerk, who managed to take everything except my bike lock. My bike was gone.
A few years later, I decided to try again. I went to Cyclepath and got a royal blue bike. I got an even better lock. Then I met The Hubs and moved in with him. I moved my bike to the parking garage underground so it wouldn’t melt in the rain or get touched by strangers.
A few months later–in the middle of winter, when I wasn’t riding my bike–I saw a sign in the elevator saying that several dozen bikes had been stolen from the garage. I went down to see if my bike was okay. He wasn’t. He was gone. Someone had ripped the metal brackets that you lock your bike up to, right off the wall and took it with the bike.
But now, I have a new bike! I’ve been riding it all over the city and I love her so much. I call her Blue Betsey. I have not one but TWO locks for her that are practically bigger than her. But the best part, are her accessories.
Over at Sweetspot, I have pix. So far I have the basket. And the cupcake bell is ordered!
The only thing I can’t find is a comfy bike seat. I saw a cute pink bike seat cover that was made of gel, but it was kid-sized and wouldn’t fit over my seat. I want one of those cruiser seats that’s super cushiony, but I’d like it to be pink or blue, if possible. Does anyone out there have any idea where I could get one? Thanks!
